Societies idea of acceptable behavior and romantic dynamics changes almost as frequently as the seasons. Trends seem to rise and fall for no apparent reason, here today and gone tomorrow. But when it comes to socially acceptable behavior surrounding dating who is to say what is right or wrong or what is socially acceptable and what is not? Ignorant people with small minds set rigid standards on what should and should not be done. They impose their narrow minded opinions on the world and call it law. Well for those who retain the right to think for themselves, socially acceptable is subject to individual interpretation.
With that said Asian women with Black men are no different from the culturally diverse coupling of Italian men with a Black women. The only difference in all honesty is the way the media portrays it. Built upon years and years of stereotypes Asian women have been typified as naïve, overly submission, devoid of character and blindly devoted to their men. They have been said to crave a dominant man that will subjugate them and they are taught to please their man at all cost. Black men have been personified as socially impotent but sexually potent and dominant figures. Their strong stature paired with the demure innocence of the Asian woman has created many a distorted and perverted fantasy. This has ultimately lead to the social stigma that relationships between Asian women with Black men experience.
It is important to note that there are no documented socially damaging effects resulting from the coupling of Asian and Blacks. When individuals complain about the social correctness of Asian women with black men it almost always stems from ignorance, jealousy and conjecture. Everyone should be entitled to exercise their own preferences. Was not this country founded on the premise of individual right to the pursuit of happiness? If it’s not hurting someone else, live and let live.
However there are some individuals that get so worked up and write articles and lecture on the correctness of the couples decision to make their relationship public when the bottom line is that dating and building a relationship with someone is a personal choice that should not be subject to the scrutiny of others.
Prior to 1967 interracial relationships were not even recognized as having legal weight in the US. It is reported that since the year 2000 over 6.8 million individuals within the United States is multiracial. We are talking a period of 43 years. It took 43 years to get to the point where we are now. It would be tragic to return to that state of ignorance and turn our backs on all of the progress that we’ve made thus far.
